Would you recommend "Abundance"? I don't think the author is such a persona non grata on the left that he has to go to the American Enterprise Institute the way Ruy Teixeira had to, but perhaps I am wrong.
Yes, I recommend the book. It's frustratingly disheartening, and he employs a lot of happy talk when it comes to his understanding of *how* the upside of technology is actually produced and manifested, but his underlying points are solid. He clearly knows what he's talking about. I'd have Klein on my planning committee.
Thanks. Unrelated - Matt Robinson! The second Gordon (of four). Creator of Roosevelt Franklin! Roosevelt (and his students at Roosevelt Franklin Elementary School) were as hysterical as any other muppet sketches. Related to that - when I was a kindergartener in upstate NY in 1973, they took us on a field trip to a play, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. A man came on stage and apologized because the lead in the play was sick. He asked for any volunteers to play the part. All the kids wanted to do it. From the back of the theater, a "Me! Me! I'll do it" was heard, & a man ran up to the stage and got the part. 5 year old me said "That's David, from Sesame Street! David is here!" I paid strict attention. Pretty good play. I may have told my parents, but no one else seemed to recognize him. It was definitely him though. Years later, I exchanged correspondence with Michael Davis, author of Street Gang, a history of Sesame Street. I related my story, hoping for independent confirmation. He said he didn't know, but he'd ask Sonia Manzano (Maria) about it. She said also didn't know for sure, but she did say it sounded exactly like something Northern Calloway would have been doing at that time.
Good enough for me.
