Stoic observations is a source of great relief for me. 20 years when I lived alone in the woods of Alaska ( no electricity) I often would write letters. This time, connected to the internet and unable to pull away, offering my own insights into substack notes or twitter - it's shocking how meaningless digital commentary feels compared to the profoundity of someone writing a letter.

but 20 years ago when I went into the woods, I came out with the idea that a woman, and family was a great redemptive authentic road in a world that to me seemed utterly overcome with superflous desires and entertainment.

just celebrated 20 years a month ago. Seven kids along the way, 4 boys three girls. What a road, and most definitely worth it, but what I still struggle with , and what stoic observations is helping me with.... is my responsibilities to society. Which is very tricky. Understand I'm not the savior sent to help everyone, but also intuitively feel that I could be an extremely powerful force for good in this world.

For a long time I thought I should just abandon ship, but the salty captain doesn't do that does he? A severe tension! Yet stoicism has opened up some relief valves for me to help get through! very grateful....you're probably the first write I've found real inspiration from in years - and i read a lot of shit. Blending my pull towards Christ's teaching with stoic concepts is very invigorating - also find your " beyond racializing" take to be dead on... I''ve been trying to articulate the same thing lately. It is a powerful force for harmonizing in broken world that has only just begun.

But as the women....I'm enjoying ( after a painful episode ) the feeling of merging with your wife as we get older and embracing the idea, deep down, of inseparability.

I’ve shared your Substack with a few friends. (I’ve had some difficulties with Substack, so I've mostly given up on them for now.) But I wanted to offer a quick CHAT note to you, but can’t seem to activate the feature without inviting chats from others. So I’ll try to offer it here and now:

Good writing! Sounds like maybe we went to different schools together! (I tried celibacy for a brief few years; now married for 44; but no kids.)

Your recent brief mention of apocalypse got me to upgrade to Paid, which topic deserves some unpacking, which might be started at Bart Ehrman’s blogpost on 29March’23: EhrmanBlog dot Org , on his newest book, ARMAGGEDON: What the Bible says about The End. (NB: Prof.Ehrman is a former fundamentalist-Christian, now a self-described atheist, and church historian of considerable honesty.) ~eric. MeridaGOround dot com
