I've been using a mix of (the new) Live 365, Pandora, DI.FM, TuneIn, and a half dozen others. But this led me to Qobuz, and I'm going to give it a try.
Also, I'm a big fan of NAD, using power amp, pre amp, and CD player. Any thoughts on the NAD DAC?
There's a new kid on the block. Schiit. They are what I consider to be the NAD of today. I had a NAD amp driving Infinitys back in the 90s and I remember how impressed everyone was with the plain looking, no-nonsense, highly capable NAD. So I've got legacy love. I am using the very same Soundcraftsmen pre-amp to this very day. When I started hearing funny noises about two months ago, I started looking at a full replacement. The first place I looked was for an NAD integrated amp.
So I preliminarily look at their site and I'm asking - what's all this BlueOS stuff? And what's MQA? And what... This opened up a rabbit hole. Bluesound and BlueOS sounds like a winner. I also tried out Roon which I kind of like but it needs a dedicated server which I cannot spare at the moment.
My roadmap for the moment is looking very closely at Innuos. I think that's the long term winner, and I like their engineering approach. So really I have to look more closely at the BlueOS ecosystem which very well may be unnecessary if I go with Roon or even Plex. It's a big deal to me that I can rip my own CDs. So that's my priority.
I do need to settle down to one or two streaming services, because right now I'm paying for Qobuz, Apple Music and Amazon Music. That will be the subject of my next post in this area. Making my best music library, that mean minding a lot of physical media and cloud stored stuff. That's why the BlueOS, Innuos, Plex, Roon axis of stuff is critical.
