“75% of people support teaching history that causes discomfort"

That poll may well be accurate (I support that notion), but I suspect that most of those answering affirmatively mean history that causes others discomfort.

Interestingly enough, yesterday I was trying to find out exactly where I might find an appropriately scholarly review of the slavery practices of tribal people here. I already know romantics find it impossible to believe there were warlike peoples outside of the European 'invaders', but it was easy to find that the 'civilized tribal nations' also bought and sold African chattel here. Anyway, I'm reading up on the Comanche and should find something interesting, keeping in mind that it was the industrial revolution that obviated the need for human labor in so many areas of endeavor. I expect at any rate that it would be highly discomforting to many folks that the Sioux started fights. Stephen Ambrose has a good book highlighting the life and times of Crazy Horse and George Custer. Colin Calloway documents the economics of human trafficking by Indians here.
