I found THREE BODY PROBLEM to be a slog when I read it some years back (it was a Hugo nominee, and I still cared about them at the time) so I'm a little reluctant to tackle the sequels, though I find your description of the plot to be interesting.

A long-distance friend from California whom I met on a ten-day Mexican excursion a few years back, asked me last week, Easter week ("Semana Santa") about the resurrection, knowing I had done some graduate level work at an Ivy Div.School. I pointed him to what he now considers a "brilliant book" by an A-list professor of church history, and NYT best-selling author, titled How Jesus Became God. (Full disclosure: the author, Bart Ehrman, a former fundamentalist, is now a self-described atheist.) So, in "assigning" my friend his homework, I chose to reread the book, too. Refreshing, honest, and thorough! (I self-describe as a Christian heretic — but hey, so was Jesus, according to those "church boys" who had him executed by the Roman occupiers!) ~eric.
